Pastoral Support

At Hadleigh High School, we place great importance on the pastoral care, wellbeing and personal development of every student. We believe that students achieve their best when they feel known, supported and valued. Our pastoral structure is designed to ensure that every student has access to the guidance and support they need throughout their time at school.
Form Tutor
Every student is allocated a Form Tutor who is an important member of their pastoral support network. We encourage parents and carers to get to know their child's Form Tutor, as they are often the first person in school to notice changes in a student's wellbeing, attitude, attendance or engagement.
Form Tutors meet with their students regularly and play an important role in supporting their personal development, wellbeing and readiness to learn. They provide a familiar and consistent point of contact for students and help them to feel connected to the school community.
Form Tutors also work closely with parents and carers, maintaining communication where appropriate and helping to support students' progress and wellbeing.
Year Learning Leaders
Our pastoral structure includes dedicated Year Learning Leaders who oversee the wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and progress of students within their year groups.
Our Year Learning Leaders are:
- Year 7 and Year 8 Learning Leader
- Year 9 and Year 10 Learning Leader
- Year 11 Learning Leader
Year Learning Leaders work closely with Form Tutors, subject teachers, students and parents or carers to identify concerns, celebrate progress and provide appropriate support. They may not necessarily be involved in routine day-to-day matters, but will be kept informed where concerns require additional pastoral support or intervention.
Inclusion Year Learning Leader
Our pastoral structure also includes an Inclusion Year Learning Leader, who works across all year groups with students who may be experiencing significant difficulties within the mainstream school setting and who require additional support to help them succeed.
The Inclusion Year Learning Leader provides targeted and temporary pastoral support. When a student is identified as requiring this additional level of support, the Inclusion Year Learning Leader temporarily becomes their Year Learning Leader.
They work closely with the student, their family, teachers and other relevant staff to understand the barriers affecting the student's success and to put appropriate support and strategies in place. The aim is to help students make positive changes, develop greater independence and successfully engage with school.
As the student makes progress and is ready to return fully to the support of their usual year group, responsibility will transfer back to their usual Year Learning Leader. This ensures that students remain connected to their year group and are supported to succeed within the mainstream school environment.
Student Development and Enrichment
Pastoral care extends beyond academic progress. Students have opportunities to take part in a wide range of extracurricular, sporting, cultural and enrichment activities. We encourage students to become involved in school life, develop new interests, build positive relationships and take on responsibilities within the school community.
We want every student to feel that they belong at Hadleigh High School and have opportunities to develop their confidence, character and wider skills.
Keeping in Touch
We value strong communication between home and school and encourage parents and carers to contact us whenever they have a question or concern about their child.
Your first point of contact should be to email support@hadleighhigh.net, explaining the issue as clearly as possible. Your email will then be reviewed and triaged by an appropriate member of staff, who will direct it to the person best placed to respond.
Depending on the nature of the issue, this may be your child's Form Tutor, a subject teacher, Year Learning Leader, Inclusion Year Learning Leader or another appropriate member of staff.
Working in partnership with families allows us to identify concerns early, provide appropriate support and help every student to achieve their potential.
