Exams and Revision

At Hadleigh High School, regular assessment is an important part of teaching and learning. Assessments help us to understand what students know and can do, identify areas where further support or challenge may be needed, and monitor progress over time.

Throughout the year, students complete a range of assessments, including Knowledge Week examinations, and termly internal assessments. These assessments provide teachers with valuable information about students' understanding and progress and help inform future teaching.

Key Stage 3 Banding

At Key Stage 3, assessment information is used alongside other evidence to determine students' curriculum banding. This forms part of our adaptive curriculum, which is designed to provide students with an appropriate level of challenge and support.

Different bands receive different amounts of curriculum time in English, Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), allowing additional time to be allocated where it will have the greatest impact on students' learning and progress.

Banding is reviewed as students progress through Key Stage 3, ensuring that their curriculum continues to reflect their developing needs and abilities.

GCSE Examinations and Tier of Entry

For students in Years 10 and 11, Knowledge Week assessments, termly assessments and internal examinations are used to monitor progress and help inform decisions about GCSE tier of entry, where subjects offer different tiers.

These assessments, alongside students' overall performance and progress, help teachers make informed decisions about the most appropriate examination route for each student. Assessment information may also contribute to predicted or forecast grades that are shared with further education providers.

Our assessment programme is designed to ensure that students are well prepared for their final examinations while providing teachers with the information they need to support every student to achieve their potential.

Timetables for each individual period of exams will be issued nearer the time. A selection of revision materials will also be made available on each subject curriculum area.
