Hadleigh High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students. We believe that every young person has the right to feel safe, supported and able to learn in a secure environment. Safeguarding is at the heart of our school community and is the responsibility of everyone who works with or supports our students.
All members of staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training, including training when they join the school. This ensures that staff are able to recognise signs that a young person may be at risk of harm or may need additional help and know how to respond appropriately. We have clear procedures for reporting and managing concerns, and staff are expected to remain vigilant and act promptly when concerns arise. We also follow robust safer recruitment procedures to help ensure that those working with our students are suitable to do so.
Safeguarding also extends to everyone who visits or works on our school site. Visitors are made aware of our safeguarding expectations and are required to follow the school's procedures while they are on site or working with students.
We believe that students should understand how to keep themselves and others safe. Through our PSHE programme, assemblies, personal development curriculum and wider school activities, students are given opportunities to learn about safeguarding and how to seek help when they are worried about themselves or someone else. This includes learning about healthy relationships, bullying, online safety, appropriate behaviour and the different risks young people may encounter both in school and beyond the school environment.
Online safety is an important part of our safeguarding approach. Students are taught about the responsible and respectful use of technology, how to recognise potential online risks and where to go for support. We recognise that safeguarding concerns can arise in a range of settings, including online, within peer groups and in the wider community, and we work to help students develop the knowledge and confidence to manage these risks safely.
Where concerns arise about a student's welfare, we work closely with parents and carers and, where appropriate, with external agencies and safeguarding partners. Information will be shared when necessary to protect a student or ensure that they receive the right support. We will normally discuss concerns with parents or carers, unless doing so would place the student at greater risk or would not be in their best interests.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. By working together with students, parents and carers, staff and our wider community, we aim to provide an environment in which every young person feels safe, listened to, respected and supported.

Need to Talk
If your child has any concerns about their safety or wellbeing, or is worried about a friend, they should speak to a trusted member of staff. This could be their Form Tutor, Head of Year or the Headteacher. Students can also speak to any member of staff they feel comfortable approaching.
If you are a parent or carer and would like to raise or discuss a safeguarding or child protection concern, please contact one of the members of staff listed below. You can also contact the school by email using the address provided.
We encourage parents and carers to contact us if they have any concerns about the welfare or safety of a student. We will listen to your concerns and ensure that they are passed to the appropriate member of our safeguarding team.
