Hadleigh 100

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go……Dr. Seuss

At Hadleigh High School we understand how important good literacy is for your child's development and life choices.

Developing skills in literacy is about learning to use language to express, explore and communicate our thoughts, ideas and feelings with others. We do this through speaking, listening, reading and writing, and getting better at literacy means making progress in each of these areas.

We owe it to our students to give them the very best literacy skills in order to improve their chances in life, and to enable them to succeed in whatever path they choose. We adopt a cross-curricular focus to promoting good literacy amongst our pupils and staff. We believe that promoting literacy is a whole school responsibility and not just that of the English department. We also invite you to join us in developing your child's literacy at home by participating in ‘The Hadleigh 100’

The Hadleigh 100 comprises 100 books that staff, students and parents believe to be classic books that students should aim to read during their time at the school. Students taking up the challenge will gain hugely from the experience, whether it is reading for pure pleasure or to broaden their knowledge and literary horizons.  We would also encourage parents and carers to take up the challenge and read a selection or all of the books and then discuss them with their son/daughter.

The library has copies of all the books, so that students can continue on with the literary experience. We would welcome any additional copies that you may wish to contribute to the library or a donation so that the library may purchase additional copies.

A copy of the Hadleigh 100 list can be found below. Please let us know if there is any way you would like to support with the Hadleigh 100, whether you would like to share your views on a book on the list or donate a book to the library.

Donations can be made via our Parent Pay system by selecting ‘Hadleigh 100’. If you do not currently have parent pay login details please contact the school to organise. If you are donating a physical copy of the book please ask your child to hand it in at reception. I would also like to say a big thank you to all parents who have already generously donated to the Hadleigh 100 on behalf of the students and staff of Hadleigh High School.

Thank you for your continued support.
