Duke of Edinburgh
For over 60 years the Duke of Edinburgh's Award has been available to young people aged 14 to 25. The DofE Award is a challenging programme of activities which provides an opportunity to experience adventure, to discover new interests and talents and to develop essential skills for life and work. It is a recognised mark of achievement that is respected by employers.
A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. You just need to be aged between 14 (you can start in the academic year you turn 14) and 24 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by. At Hadleigh High School, we run the Bronze and Silver Awards. The Bronze Award is offered to Year 10 and the Silver Award is offered to Year 11 students.
Outline of the scheme
You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections. Please click here to read about how each award can be achieved.
Component | Explanation |
Volunteering | Students undertake service to individuals or the community |
Physical | Students aim to improve in an area of sport, dance or fitness |
Skills | Students develop practical and social skills and personal interests |
Expedition | Students plan and train for the completion of an adventurous journey in the UK |
You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only). The best bit is - you get to choose what you do! Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing, and along the way, you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
To date, the school has:
- 6 students who have received Gold Award.
- 142 students who have achieved a Silver Award.
- 428 students who have received their Bronze Award.
